Bound in a smart half morocco binding with navy cloth boards, a prize binding for the Science and Art Department of the Committee of Council on Education, school of Art, Bristol. 

First published in 1873, this copy is the second and cheaper edition.

Illustrated with 24 plates and a frontispiece, and a fold-out chart preceding the text. Collated, complete.

Francis Wollaston Moody (1824–1886) was a British painter, designer, and art educator associated with the South Kensington system of design training.

Condition

Bound in a smart half binding with cloth boards. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities and spine, resulting in slight loss to morocco. very slight rubbing to boards. Prize plate from the School of Art, Bristol, to from paste down, awarded to Emily M. Bell in 1877. Blind stamp from the department of Science and Art to title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with scattered spotting to first and last few leaves, and one or two spots to fore edge.
