The first novel following the life a woman onboard the SS Great Eastern alongside her abusive husband, who finds out that the man she loves is also on board.

This novel was incredibly popular during Verne's lifetime, enjoying a similar level of popularity as 'Around the World in Eighty Days'.

The second tale in this volume, The Blockade Runners', is set during the American Civil War and following the exploits of a British merchant who must break the Union blockade of Charleston harbour in South Carolina.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light rubbing to the spine and boards, gilt to the front board only lightly rubbed. A small patch of cockling to the cloth to the head of the rear board. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Internally, binding is strained in places. Pages are bright and generally clean with the occasional spot and handling mark.
