Three volumes of this work are present here, uniformly bound in half calf. A fourth volume, on Africa, was also published, but is not present here.
With a frontispiece to each volume, illustrated with vignettes throughout, which are engraved by the Brothers Dalziel.
Present here are three volumes, dedicated to Birds, Mammalia, and Reptiles, Fishes, Molluscs &c &c &c.
These are incredibly detailed works on natural history, exploring many different species, detailing their natural habitat, their habits, and lifecycles.
By John George Wood, a well known as a parson-naturalist, giving up his curacy to write works about natural history.
With the former owner's inscription 'G Thistle the property of Ada Thistle' to a front blank of each volume.
Condition
In half calf bindings, with marbled paper covered boards, and gilt detailing to back strips. Externally, very smart, with fading to back strips as is common with green calf. A touch of rubbing to back strip heads and tails and raised bands. Former owner's inscription to a front blank of each volume. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, but with spotting and instances of foxing to first and last few leaves of each volume.
