What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding

Household edition.

Dated using Jisc, from copies of the work held at the British Library.

Bound in half calf with paper-covered boards.

Wonderfully illustrated with fifty-seven illustrations by "Phiz", or Hablot Knight Browne, a British artist and illustration known for his iconic contributions to the works of Charles Dickens.

With a frontispiece, three plates and numerous vignettes. Collated, complete.

An excellent example of Charles Dickens' first novel, which was originally written in serial form and published in 1837. The novel is a sequence of loosely connected adventures and characters, occurring between 1827 and 1828.

As with many of Dickens' other works, this novel shows the grimy side of poverty and prosperity in Victorian England, showing poor social conditions alongside repulsive characters.

The Household Edition was the first series of Dickens' works to be published after his death in 1870. As the name suggests, it was intended as for being an edition "for the home", and to be affordable for less affluent readers.

Condition

Bound in half calf with paper-covered boards. Endpapers renewed. Bound without blanks. Externally, excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, with light scattered spotting.
