    First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Very Scarce

    A scarce first edition of this title, which is concerned with social and environmental history of Africa.

    One of several volumes with these decorative covers, including volumes dedicated to the study of mammalia and birds.

    Decorated with beautiful gilt designs to front board and spine, as well as marbled page edges.
    With a monochrome frontispiece, and vignette illustrations, which include engravings by the influential brothers Dalziel.

    Bookplate of Julia Hazelhurst, of Halton Grange, to front paste down.

    Condition

    Bound in original green cloth. Externally, very smart. Bumped head and tail. Slight marks to board. Wear to spine tips. Slight spotting to rear endpapers. Bookplate to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
