Illustrated throughout with eighty original images. A collection of the fables attributed to Aesop, a Greek fabulist and storyteller noted for his tales characterized by anthropomorphic animal characters. Many of the tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. Translated by Samuel Croxall, an Anglican churchman, writer and translator, particularly noted for his edition of Aesop's Fables. With new applications and morals from George Fyler Townsend, the British translator of the standard English edition of Aesop's Fables. Dated from the British Library.
Condition
Bound in quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart with light sunning to the extremities and the odd small mark. Internally, firmly bound. Pages have been washed and are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark.
