What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Rebound, Very Scarce

The first edition of this very scarce work.

A humorous satirical poem in VIII Cantos, with references to political and social figures of the time.

Handsomely rebound in a later quarter cloth, with marbled boards. Bound with the original wraps.

With six plates and numerous illustrations to the margins. With twelve pages of advertisements. Collated, there are eleven plates to the rear of a copy held at Hathi Trust (interspersed with the advertisements) that this copy lacks. However, the advertisements are paginated (ix-xxxii) and ours are not, suggesting a different impression instead perhaps.

Published anonymously 'by the authors of "The Coming K___" and "The Siliad"'. Institutional copies link this work to Samuel Orchart Beeton, Aglen A. Dowty and Evelyn D. Jerrold. Beeton was an English publisher and the husband of Mrs. Beeton (Isabella Mary Beeton), whose Book of Household Management he published. He also founded and published the influential Boy's Own Magazine.

Condition

Handsomely rebound in a later quarter cloth, with marbled boards. Bound in with the original wraps. Externally, very smart, with only mild shelf wear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with scattered spotting, heaviest to the first and last few leaves.
