Very scarce.

Written by Charlotte Maria Tucker under the pseudonym A.L.O.E which stands for a Lady of England.

Charlotte Maria Tucker was a prolific British writer and poet. She wrote both children's and adult works of fiction.

Her work as a children's writer focuses on her Evangelical religious beliefs. Most of her stories are allegories with clear moral messages. Her stories included elements of realism and naturalism which softens the moral messages.

Many of her works first appeared in magazine form.

The text is accompanied by a selection of charming vignettes a colour frontispiece and a half title.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth. Externally generally smart. A small crack in the front joint. Rubbing resulting in minor loss to the joints and tail of the spine. A small mark on the rear board. Internally firmly bound. Spotting to the first and last pages but generally, the pages are bright and clean with the odd spot. Contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper.
