A collection of critical and historical essays by Lord Thomas Babington Macaulay, a British historian, poet, and Whig politician who served as the Secretary of War from 1839-1841. 

The essays were contributed to the Edinburgh Review, the title of five distinct intellectual and cultural magazines. 

Essays include those on Milton, Machiavelli, Southey's Edition of the Pilgrim's Progress, and Moore's Life of Lord Byron.

Condition

In half morocco. Externally, excellent. Very slight fading to spine. Book plate to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with light spotting to the front, rear, and fore edge.
