1874-1878 Four Programmes for the Prince of Wales's Royal Theatre
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
Four very scarce programmes for the Prince of Wales's Royal Theatre, all dating from the final decade of the theatre's operation, during which time Marie Wilton managed the theatre.
These four programmes are dated between 1874 and 1878, with the final programme noting the farewell revival of Thomas William Robertson's realist play 'Ours', which was first performed at the theatre in 1866. This 1878 revival took place prior to the closing of the Prince of Wales, and the opening of the Theatre Royal Haymarket, also under Wilton's management.
These programmes also reference performances of Taylor and Reade's 'Last Nights of Masks and Faces', Henry James Byron's 'Wrinkles', W. S. Gilbert's 'Sweethearts' and T. W. Robertson's 'Society'.
Condition
