A fascinating account of Lord Dufferin's journey around the North Atlantic on his commissioned schooner "Foam", during which he sailed to Iceland, Jan Mayen Island and Spitzbergen.
In the course of the voyage Dufferin created a diary in the form of letters nominally written to his mother. On his return, Lord Dufferin used those letters to write this book about his travels.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, title page vignette, nine plates and numerous vignettes. Collated, complete.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, front hinge has failed. With rubbing to the extremities and loss to the spine head and tail. Split to the front joint cloth. Fading to the spine and marks to the boards. Internally, first five leaves are detached, but present. Binding is tender throughout. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spotting to the last couple leaves. Contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper and ink impression to the title page.
