First Edition, Leather Binding, Uncommon

A first edition of this uncommon set in which the French theologian Frédéric Auguste Lichtenberger discusses the history of religious ideas in Germany during the middle of the eighteenth century. Published in French. The first volume discusses the thought of Gotthold Epraim Lessing and Friedrich Schleiermacher that dominated religious hermeneutics at the time, the second volume discusses the theology of David Strauss, before Lichtenberger elaborates on contemporary religious thought in Germany.

Condition

Rebound in a quarter calf binding over patterned boards. Externally, very smart. Lightly rubbed to the spine, with a little scuffing of the leather to the front joints of volumes I and III. Lightly rubbed to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light foxing to the front and the rear of the volumes, pages are bright and clean.
