Fourth edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous in-text images. Written originally to serve as a guide to the geologists attending the Local Committee of the British Association at Glasgow in 1855, this work provides a detailed sketch of the geology of the Clyde Islands, with special reference to their antiquities. The work includes chapters on Arran, excursions in the area, ancient remains and fossils, mammals and bird-life, and more. With commentary on the other islands. Written by James Bryce, an Irish mathematician, naturalist and geologist.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the cloth. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot.
