Bound in half calf with cloth boards and a decorative marbled fore edge.

These critical and historical essays contributed to the Edinburgh Review at the time and were dedicated to Francis Jeffrey, who was a close friend of Macaulay's. Lord Macaulay provides the reader with an insight into his interests and reviews the activities of different historical figures, such as Lord Bacon and Lord Nugent.

Condition

In half calf binding with cloth boards and gilt detail to the spine. Externally in excellent condition with just minor shelf wear only. Slight rubbing to the extremities. Good colour and charming design. Front hinge starting after title page. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Occasional spotting, mainly on endpapers. Age toning to endpapers.
