Four seasons of 'Beeton's Christmas Annual' bound in three volumes.
This annual was published by Samuel Orchart Beeton between 1860 and 1898. The issue for November 1897 containing the first appearance of 'A Study in Scarlet', the first introduction of Holmes and Watson.
Each annual contained articles, verses, stories, and games for young children, often with themes of Christmas and the New Year, these were listed as literature, pastimes, recreations, and useful matter.
'The Thirteenth Season', containing 'The Coming K-', bound with 'The Fourteenth Season', containing 'The Siliad'. Illustrated in-text throughout, in addition to one folding plate.
'The Fifteenth Season', containing 'The Fijiad', and 'Jon Duan'. Illustrated in-text throughout, in addition to six plates.
'The Sixteenth Season', containing 'Edward the Seventh', and 'Faust and Phisto'. 'The Key to Edward the Seventh' is also bound in. Illustrated in-text throughout, in addition to three folding plates, and five plates.
Edited by Samuel Orchart Beeton, an English publisher, best known as the husband of Mrs Beeton (Isabella Mary Mayson) and publisher of Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management. He also founded and published Boy's Own Magazine, the first and most influential boys' magazine that ran from 1855 to 1890.
Condition
In a half morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with very light rubbing to the boards and spines. Tidemarks to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots.
