Complete in three volumes. Second edition. With a portrait frontispiece to volumes one and two, and fifty-seven photographic plates to volume three. Collated complete. A biographical study on the author's adoptive mother, Maria Hare (nee Leycester), an English religious writer, academic and intellectual. With chapters from her childhood in Knutsford, Cheshire, through her education, marriage, loss of her husband, and adoption of the author. With extracts of personal letters and passages inspired by her own journals and diaries. Volumes one and two contains the main memoir, with volume three acting as a supplementary volume to the work providing illustrations and the letters of Julius and Maria Hare. Written by Augustus John Cuthbert Hare, an English writer, painter, and raconteur. Born the youngest son of Francis George Hare, he was adopted by his aunt, the widow of British writer Augustus William Hare, and his parents renounced all further claims to him.
Condition
Rebacked in the original half calf with marbled boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and minor loss to the extremities. Minor fading to the spines and board edges with the odd small mark. Hinges reinforced with cloth tape. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark.
