What Our Customers Say...

Description

Illustrated, Original Binding, Uncommon

An unusual example of this text with its red pictorial board design, featuring black and gilt motifs to both the front board, and spine.

A unique, influential, and somewhat infamous figure, Charles Waterton has long been recognised for his passion for the natural world, for instance, as the namesake for the Waterton Lakes in Alberta, and for his unique, unconventional approaches to study.

He also invented his own technique of taxidermy which he taught to John Edmonstone, a freedman, and notable taxidermist, who later taught a young Charles Darwin.

An edited edition, including a life of the author chapter, written by Norman Moore.
Features a frontispiece portrait of the author, and 4 further monochrome plates.
Collated, complete.

Condition

Bound in its original red cloth. Externally, smart. Fading to spine, and part of back board. Odd marks to rear boards. Bumping to head and tail. Very slight shelf wear. Hinges starting. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, very occasional spotting. Age toning to reverse of frontispiece.
