Complete in two volumes. First collected edition of these works. A collection of historical essays from Edward Augustus Freeman, an English historian, architectural artist, and Liberal politician, a one-time candidate for Parliament. He held the position of Regius Professor of Modern History at Oxford and was a prolific writer, publishing over two hundred distinct works. Volume one, being the First Series, contains titles such as: The Mythical and Romantic Elements in Early English History (Fortnightly Review, May 1866), The Continuity of English History (Edinburgh Review, July 1860), and The Early Sieges of Paris (British Quarterly Review, January 1871), amongst others. Volume two, being the Second Series, contains titles such as: Ancient Greece and Mediaeval Italy (Oxford Essays, 1857), The Historians of Athens (National Review, January 1858), and The Flavian Caesars (National Review, January 1863), amongst others. Bound by Bickers & Son, London.

Condition

Rebacked with the original full calf binding. Externally, sound with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor loss to the original spine labels and splines with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages arevery bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. A contemporary ink stamp to the front endpaper. Bound by Bickers & Son, London.
