First edition. 

Comprising four volumes bound into two volumes, (1870 & 1871 and 1872 & 1873) from this uncommonly found quarterly journal, 'The Church Builder'. Sixteen issues in total across the four years. 

Uniformly bound in half calf, with marbled paper covered boards.

Published in connection with The Incorporated Church Building Society, this journal contains articles and essays on the architecture, development and use of English and Welsh churches. 

Illustrated with engraved plates and vignettes, including two plates to 1870 (No. XXXIII), one plate to 1871 (No. XXXVII), one plate to 1872 (No. XLI, facing p. 197, incorrectly stated as facing p. 207), and a folding plate to 1873 (No. XLVI). Collated, complete.

Condition

Uniformly bound in half calf, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, smart, with rubbing to the extremities. With the bookplate of one Rev. William Charles Hall to the front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot, heaviest to the first and last couple leaves.
