The primary sketches in this volume were originally attributed to Charles Dickens, who contributed especially to Young Couples, but were likely a mix of his work and others writing in a similar comic style.
This volume is a collection of Sketches of Young Ladies (1837). These are humorous portraits of different "types" of young women in society. Sketches of Young Gentlemen (1838). This is a playful "response," describing the foibles of young men, and Sketches of Young Couples (1840), examining newlyweds with Dickens’s trademark wit.
