Second state with additions, published the same year as the first. The first being xii, 340pp. and the second being xv, 368pp. A collection of religious verses from John Henry Newman, an English Catholic theologian, academic, philosopher, historian, writer, and poet. Newman was an important and controversial figure in the religious history of England in the nineteenth century and was known nationally by the mid-1830s. He was canonised as a Catholic saint in 2019. With titles including: The Trance of Time, A Picture, A Voice from Afar, Seeds in the Air, and Kind Remembrance, amongst others.

Condition

In the original red cloth binding. Externally, sound with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd mark to the boards. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine with a 1" split in the cloth to the front joint. Front hinge tender with rear hinge starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound with half-title detached but present. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting, predominantly to the first and last few pages.
