French. Illustrated with a frontispiece and numerous engravings. The fables of Jean de La Fontaine, a French fabulist and one of the most widely read French poets of the seventeenth century. His fables have provided a model for subsequent fabulists across Europe and beyond. This collection includes titles such as: the Lion and the Rat, the Weasel in the Granary, the Miser who Lost his Treasure, the Horse and the Wolf, the Hen with the Golden Eggs, and many others. Illustrated by Jean Ignace Isidore Gerard, a prolific French illustrator and caricaturist who published under the pseudonym of Grandville.

Condition

Bound in quarter crushed morocco with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Minor bumping with small splits in the cloth at the board tips resulting in minor loss. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting throughout. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown.
