1868 Aesop's Fables
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Decorative Binding, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
A particularly scarce edition of these classic fables.
The editor is credited as Edward Garrett, a pseudonym used by Scottish writer, poet and suffragist, Isabella Fyvie Mayo. She was the first woman to be elected to a public board in Aberdeen, where she spent most of her life, and published poems and stories with the help of friends. It is said that her writing, together with that of Elizabeth Mayhew Edmonds, raised questions of gender and particularly shed light on the leading role women played in the Greek War of Independence.
In the publisher's original decorative green cloth.
Richly illustrated throughout with vignettes from J. Wolf, J. B. Zwecker and T. Dalziel.
Condition
In the original decorative cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with minor rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd spot or handling mark.
