Folding Maps, Illustrated, Leather Binding

The scarce 1868-1869 two volume 'Stereotype Edition' of this work, with volume II being an Appendix volume, and volume I being the seventeenth thousand.

Volume I illustrated with a folding colour map and numerous vignette illustrations, with a number of vignette illustrations to volume II.

Collated, complete.

First published in 1855, in his works John Gadsby discusses his travels in the East, providing details about his time in Egypt, Jerusalem, Cairo and Smyrna, alongside European travels in Thebes, Rome and Pompeii.

With the inscription of S. Prudden to the front free endpaper of volume I, and the front pastedown of volume II.

Condition

In half calf bindings with cloth covered boards. Front board of volume II detached but present. Volume I rebacked, with back strip laid down. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Inscriptions to pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned due to paper type, with instances of spotting and handling marks.
