The first edition, second printing of this work, rebacked in a cloth binding with the original backstrip laid down to the spine.

Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece, a title page vignette, and eight plates. Collated, complete.

A stirring and comprehensive history of women's contribution to the American Civil War, including those who fought in battle, those involved espionage, those who performed medical care and those who raised large sums of money. The journalist and author Frank Moore (1828–1904) dedicates chapters to famously courageous and philanthropic women such as Fanny Ricketts, Mary A. Brady, Isabella Fogg, Margaret E. Breckinridge, Mary Morris Husband, Amy M. Bradley, and many others, as well as general information about female soldiers and sanitary labourers.

Condition

Rebacked in a cloth binding with the original backstrip laid down to the spine. Externally, generally smart, with light marks to the boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot and handling mark. A little creasing to the first couple of pages.
