A charming and scarce Victorian tale for children, a moral novel following an array of four-footed animals on a farm who get themselves into various adventures.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, a vignette title, and twenty-five plates, by Harrison Weir. Collated, complete.
Written by Mary Howitt, a poet and translator of the works of Hans Christian Andersen. She is known for writing 'The Spider and the Fly' and, with her husband, wrote over 180 books.
Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library.

Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, with a very small amount of loss. Light rubbing to the cloth, including to the gilt. Small tears to the front joint. Spine is a little age-toned. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with a few scattered spots and handling marks. Page 91/92 and the plate facing page 92 are working loose.
