This is the fourth volume from the author's most successful work, a six-volume series titled 'Sacred and Legendary Art', offering a scholarly exploration of the various artistic representations and cultural significances of the Virgin Mary.

Bound in half crushed morocco, with cloth boards. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece, twenty-six plates of etchings, and many in-text wood engravings. Collated, complete.

Jameson was best known for writing on subjects such as art and literary criticism, philosophy, travel writing, and feminism.

Condition

Bound in half crushed morocco, with cloth boards. Externally, very smart, with mild rubbing to the extremities and discolouration to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd scattered spots, most concentrated to the blanks and to the margins of the plates.
