In a Stephen Austin binding (binder's ink stamp to verso of front free-endpaper). Including discussions of John Milton and Samuel Johnson as well as The Pilgrim's Progress and Moore's Life of Byron, as well as many others. A new edition. Macaulay was a Scottish historian essayist, historian and poet. In January 1825 he made his début in the Edinburgh Review with an article on West Indian slavery. The following August the Edinburgh published his ‘Milton’ essay, which made him famous.
Condition
In an armorial calf prize binding with gilt detailing. Externally smart, with just some light rubbing in places and a few marks. Internally, firmly bound. Prize bookplate to front pastedown. Pages are bright and mainly clean, save for the odd instance of light foxing.
