Bound in half-morocco on cloth boards.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, an engraved title page, two illustrated folding plates of 'Bunyan's Dream' and as his will, and twenty-eight illustrated plates.

This large edition contains Bunyan's popular religious allegory, as well as 'The Holy War' and a range of other stories. 

John Bunyan (1628-1688) was an English writer and Puritan preacher. 'The Pilgrim's Progress' is the most famous of Bunyan's works, which tells the story of an omniscient narrator who wishes to escape the 'City of Destruction' for the 'Celestial City'. This work of theological fiction has been published in over 200 languages.

Memoir about John Bunyan to the front of the text, written by Rev. George B. Cheever, a well known but controversial abolitionist writer. 

Prefaces, indices, and text revised by George Offor.

Condition

Bound in half-morocco on cloth boards. Externally, sound. Slight rubbing to the extremities as well as the spine region, particularly the head and tail of spine as well as the joints. Marks to cloth boards, with light fading to margins. Hinges are starting but remain firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout, with light age-toning to margins and the odd spot particularly to the first and last few pages. Folding plate of 'Bunyan's dream has three closed tears to the top and bottom edge, with edgewear to margins. Folding plate of Bunyan's will has no closed tears, and is very bright and clean.
