Description

Leather Binding, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

Author's authorised edition. With a portrait frontispiece. A sweeping account of Cortes's subjugation of the Aztec people, considered a landmark work of scholarship and dramatic storytelling. This pioneering study presents a compelling view of the clash of civilizations that reverberates in Latin America to this day. With a preliminary view of the ancient Mexican civilization, written almost exclusively from primary sources due to the limited scholarship on Aztec civilization at the time, most of which Prescott dismissed as "speculation". As well as an account of the life of Hernando Cortes, the Spanish conquistador who led an expedition that caused the fall of the Aztec Empire. Written by William Hickling Prescott, an American historian and Hispanist, who is widely recognized by historiographers to have been the first American scientific historian. Dated from the National Trust Libraries. Bound by Mudie.
