Lord Macaulay was a British historian and prominent Whig politician, known for his commended work 'The History of England' as well as his essays, biographies, speeches poems, and letters.
Here is a selection of his work including contributions to 'Knight's Quarterly Magazine', 'The Edinburgh Review,' to the 'Encyclopaedia Britannica', and miscellaneous poems and inscriptions.
Ex libris bookplate to front pastedown, from the library of David Stather, a remarkable private collection of early books, pamphlets and manuscripts with main interest in English history. Further bookplate to verso front free endpaper 'Acquired May 28th 1957'.
Condition
Rebacked with cloth reinforced hinges in full calf binding, gilt tooling to spine, titles in gilt to morocco spine labels, marbled edges and endpapers. Externally with shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities, boards and back strip gently marked. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally very clean throughout with odd light minor spotting scattered to occasional leaf only.
