First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

The first edition of this work in book form.

The first issue, with three-page postscript to the rear of Vol II and 'Pricipal' for 'Principal' to Volume II page 115, 14 lines up from the bottom. Issue points as stated by John C. Eckel in his 1913 publication 'The First Editions of the Writings of Charles Dickens'. 

Complete in two volumes. 

Volume I lacking half title and title page. Both volumes bound without the slip before page 1 of Vol I and the publisher's advertisements to the rear of Vol II. 

Uniformly bound in half calf, with marbled boards.

Illustrated throughout by Marcus Stone, including nineteen plates to Vol I and a frontispiece and nineteen plates to Vol II. Collated, lacking frontispiece to Vol I 'The Bird of Prey'. 

'Our Mutual Friend' marks as the fourteenth and last novel to be completed by eminent English author Charles Dickens, serving as a savage satirical analysis of the treatment of the poor, education, representative government and the corruptive power of money.

Condition

Uniformly bound in half calf, with marbled boards. Externally, smart, with rubbing to the extremities and scuffing to the boards. Internally, Vol I lacking half title and title page. Otherwise, firmly bound. With scattered spotting throughout, heavier to the plates.
