    Ornately bound in purple velvet cloth with metal fittings and a clasp, with gauffered edges and clamshell slipcase.

    This is an evangelical hymnbook compiled by decision of the synods, “nach den Beschlüssen der Synoden”, of the regions of Jülich, Cleve, Berg, and the Grafschaft Mark, all in present-day North Rhine-Westphalia.

    “Mit Genehmigung Eines hohen Ministerii der geistlichen Angelegenheiten”, “With the approval of the High Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs.”

    Condition

    Bound in velvet cloth with metal fittings and a clasp, with gauffered edges. Externally, very smart. One or two slight handling marks to boards. Slight rubbing to extremities. Previous owner's bookplate to front paste down. Slight soiling to endpapers. Previous owner's contemporary ink inscriptions to front free endpaper. Clamshell slipcase, sound. Rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in slight loss to cloth. Lower fore edge of slipcase lid absent. Spotting to the inside. Joints cracked, slightly loose but holding. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with one or two spots to fore edge.
