An very scarce 1864 copy, an example of a posthumously published edition of this title, in morocco prize binding, elements of which were originally published in 1838.

With a portrait frontispiece. 

This copy was awarded to an Isabella George, by The Dollar Institution - a prestigious Scottish boarding and day school - in 1865.

Mungo Park was a renowned Scottish doctor and explorer, known for his focus on charting the Niger River.

This copy is decorated with marbled page edges, crisp gilt motif to front board, and detail to ribbed spine.

The title has been rebacked, with its original spine laid down, and hinges strengthened.

Condition

Bound in full morocco. Rebacked. Externally, handsome. Small areas of loss to leather to boards and spine. Bookplate of a Francis E. B. Witts to rear paste down. Prize Bookplate to front paste down. Age toning and spotting to endpapers. Hinges strengthened. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, occasional spotting.
