The very scarce first edition of this work, 'published by request'.

With a preface from G.S.B. Isbell's wife, who provides a chronological account of his life.

She explains that the following letters were addressed to members of the congregations at Providence Chapel, Stoke, and Trinity Chapel, Leicester.

In the seventy-two letters in this volume Isbell offers counsel and guidance to his flock.

With the stamp of the Strict Baptist Historical Society Library to the title page head, and a further stamp to the front free endpaper.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Tail of rear joint starting, with board firmly held. Front hinge strained, and just a touch tender to tail. Small mark to tail of front board. Stamp to front free endpaper head. Internally, firmly bound. Stamp to title page head. Pages a touch age toned due to paper type, with instances of light spotting and the odd pencil notation.
