First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

The first edition of this work, first issue, with advertisements dated August 1864, as called for.

The titular poem concerns the principle in law that after being missing for a certain number of years, a person could be declared dead for purposes of inheritance and remarriage. 

The work of Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson, who was Poet Laureate during much of Queen Victoria's reign.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Back strip and board perimeters age toned. Small loss of cloth to back strip head. A touch of fading to back strip tail. Tail of rear joint starting, with board holding firm. Front hinge strained but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
