First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
The first edition of the first series of this work. A second series featuring further examples of Tenniel's illustrations was published in 1871.
Illustrated with a vignette to the title page, and one hundred plates, one of which is folding. Collated, complete.
Tenniel was the principal cartoonist for Punch for over fifty years, but is now perhaps best remembered for his illustrations for Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There'.

A wonderful work, reproducing one hundred of Tenniel's contributions from Punch from between 1853 and 1862.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Boards bright, with mark to tail of front board. Internally, binding failed due to gutta percha. Pages bright and generally clean, with the odd instance of light spotting. Tear to fore edge of one plate.
