1864 Apologia Pro Vita Sua: Being A Reply to a Pamphlet Entitled "What, Then, Does Dr. Newman Mean?"
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Leather Binding, Original Binding
First complete edition, originally published as a series of pamphlets the same year.
A history of the author's own religious opinions, showing how his opinions had been formed and how they had led him from Anglicanism to the Catholic Church. Originally published in response to an attack by Charles Kingsley against Newman's honesty, which had been widely questioned for years. Apologia was immensely successful and cleared Newman's name with his defence of the Catholic priesthood lauded by his fellow priests.
This volume includes the appendix entitled "Answer in Detail to Mr. Kingsley's Accusations".
Written by John Henry Newman, an English Catholic theologian, academic, philosopher, historian, writer, and poet. He was previously an Anglican priest and after his conversion became a cardinal, making him an important figure in the religious history of England in the nineteenth century.
