[1864-1868] Cassell's Illustrated Shakespeare: The Plays of Shakespeare
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding
A wonderfully illustrated set of Cassell's 'Illustrated Shakespeare' series, in half calf with red cloth boards, complete in three volumes: Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies.
Volumes I - III, complete; separated into Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies respectively.
Edited by Charles Cowden Clarke, 1787 – 1877, and Mary Cowden Clarke, 1809 – 1898, both English authors and Shakespearean scholars.
With many full-page illustrations by Henry Courtney Selous, 1803 - 1890, an English painter, illustrator, and lithographer.
With Titus Andronicus omitted from the 'Tragedies' volume, on account of - as is written in the Preface - 'not only its grossness, but because of our strong conviction that it is not [Shakespeare's] writing.'
