The first edition of this very scarce work.

An engineering treatise on machinery transmission and the construction and arrangement of mills. This detailed work explores all aspects of mills, from engaging and disengaging gear, architecture, as well as the different produce of mills, such as corn, cotton, paper, and wool.

Illustrated with seven folding plates, three plates, and in-text engravings throughout. Collated, complete.

By the Scottish civil engineer and structural engineer William Fairbairn, who was the third president of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Volume II only, lacking Volume I.

Forty pages of adverts to the rear, dated August 1863.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Dampstain to the tail of the boards. A small amount of loss to the head of the spine and top edge of the front board. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few light marks to the cloth. Bookseller's label to the rear paste down. Tidemarks to the paste downs and endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with a few scattered spots, and the occasional small tidemark.
