What Our Customers Say...
Description
Leather Binding
French author and statesman Alphonse de Lamartine describes his travels in the Middle East and South Eastern Europe this leather bound copy of Voyage en Orient. Published in French. Needing to take a break from politics, Lemartine travelled to the Orient and recorded his impressions of Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Serbia. Although Lamartine was formerly a monarchist, he came to embrace democratic ideals and oppose militaristic nationalism, eventually losing to Napoleon in the election of 1848. It was then that he retired from politics, and dedicated himself to literature. With a library index card and sleeve to the rear pastedown. Library index numbers have also been added in gold pen to the tail of the spine. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. This volume is from the library of Joseph M. Gleason, who has also inscribed his name to the title page.
