With chapters on the lives and work of Andrew Yarranton, Benjamin Huntsman, Dud Dudley, Henry Maudslay, Joseph Clement and more. Written by Samuel Smiles, a British author and government reformer. Best known for his work Self-Help (1859) which promoted thrift and claimed that poverty was caused largely by irresponsible habits, while also attacking materialism and laissez-faire government.
Condition
Rebacked in full calf. Externally, sound with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards with cracks to the joints. Hinges sympathetically reinforced with cloth tape. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Further spotting to the first and last few pages with light age toning to the endpapers. School prize bookplate to the front pastedown.
