Uniformly bound in half morocco, with marbled boards and endpapers.
'Barrington' (1863) - Set in 18th-century Ireland, this novel revolves around a protracted lawsuit between the once-wealthy aristocrat Peter Barrington and the British East India Company. Illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page and twenty-four plates.
'Luttrell of Arran' (1865) - Centres on a reclusive man, who arrives on a remote Irish island with his sickly wife and young son, stirring curiosity among the local population. Illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page and thirty plates.
Illustrated by Hablot Knight Browne, well known by his pen name 'Phiz' and for appearing in books by Charles Dickens, Charles Lever, Augustus Septimus Mayhew and Harrison Ainsworth.
Collated, complete.
Condition
Uniformly bound in half morocco, with marbled boards and endpapers. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spines. Scattered scuffs to the boards and a pink stain to the rear board of 'Barrington'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with scattered spots throughout, more heavily concentrated to the first and last few leaves and to the plates.
