First Edition, Leather Binding, Very Scarce
First edition.
Very scarce.
Bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Lacking half title.
Written by English polymath Herbert Spencer, known for his works surrounding philosophy, psychology, biology and sociology. Along with Charles Darwin, Spencer contributed greatly to the field of evolution, and became known for originating the expression "survival of the fittest".
'First Principles' is the groundwork behind Spencer's theory of synthetic philosophy, with the aim of highlighting the links between philosophy, biology, psychology, religion and sociology. Spencer seeks to reconcile these seemingly opposite views on knowledge and existence, discussing the merits of different beliefs.
With the bookplate of Alexander White Thomas Liddell.
