Volume IV is collated and complete with a hand-coloured frontispiece and eight monochrome plates. This copy has had 102 additional monochrome plates bound-in to the rear, following from Plate VIII of this volume. These are the supplementary plates taken from Vol V, the final volume of this series.

From British conchologist and malacologist John Gwyn Jeffreys, who took part in several dredging expeditions, notably the Porcupine expeditions in 1869 and 1870 as its scientific leader.
Condition
Rebound in full blue cloth. Externally, very smart, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Slight fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd spot. Toning to the endpapers.
