'A History of England' was first published in 1848. It begins in 1685 and covers the history of England until 1702, encompassing the reign of James II, the Glorious Revolution, the coregency of William and Mary, and concludes at William III's death. An in-depth study of this period of seventeen years.
Macaulay's approach to this work was considered innovative. He utilised the dramatic style of classic historians whilst incorporating the factual approach of his eighteenth century precursors, such as Hume.
Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece to Volume I.
Macaulay is best known for this seminal work.

In a full calf binding, bound by Hayday. Externally, smart, with light marks to the boards and spines. Light rubbing to the spines and extremities. Spines are a little discoloured. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
