Description

First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce

Three scarce volumes of 'Frederick Lillywhite's Cricket Scores'.

A referentical work containing cricket scores from 1746 to 1854, and also containing many biographies of prominent cricket players throughout those years.

Volumes II and IV are the first editions.

Volume I is an undated reprint, published after 1863, when John Lillywhite established a cricketing goods' emporium near Euston Square.

This set includes Volumes I, II, and IV, lacking Volume III. Later expanded to fifteen volumes published up to 1879.

Volume I looks from 1746 to 1826. Volume II looks from 1827 to 1840. Volume IV looks from 1849 to 1854.

Compiled by Arthur Haygarth, an amateur cricketer. He is noted for being a significant historian of cricket. During his career, he played first class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club and Sussex. He also researched information and statistics for cricket throughout his life.

Published by Frederick Lillywhite, who was a cricketing entrepreneur and a sports outfitter. He organised the first overseas cricket tour by an English team. He also produced 'The Guide to Cricketers', which was published in 1848.

Lacking the front endpapers and plate to Volume I, and the half-title to Volume II.
