A very scarce memoir on the life on Queen Hortense, Napoleon Bonaparte's step-daughter and mother of the last monarch of France Napoleon III, compiled by Lascelles Wraxall and Robert Wehrhan. This fascinating work provides insight into the step-daughter and sister in law of one the most notable historical figures, detailing her childhood, her marriage to Louis Napoleon, Napoleon Bonaparte's brother, and her role as a mother, and much more.
Illustrated with a monochrome portrait frontispiece to 'Vol I'.
Condition
Bound in contemporary crushed half morocco with cloth to the boards. Externally excellent with very minimal edge and joint wear. Bookplate of Adelaide Spofford to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages with only the odd minor spot, heavier to the front and rear. Small tidemarks to the head of the frontispiece to 'Vol I'.
