First UK edition. Preceded by the US publication, this is the first issue of the first UK edition, identified via lack of comma after 'Elder' on title page. Illustrated with a frontispiece, one plate, and vignette illustrations. Collated, complete. A lovely copy of the publication of a series of lectures Thackeray gave on the history of the first four Hanoverian monarchs. Written by William Makepeace Thackeray, an English novelist and illustrator.
Condition
Bound in half calf with cloth covered boards. Externally, smart with rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with light age toning and scattered spotting. The odd page sympathetically repaired to the edges with paper tape. A contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
