A vanishingly scarce work.

A sermon by Anthony Schuyler, preached at his seat at Christ Church, Oswego, on the 3rd February 1861. 

The sermon focuses on the question of the morality of slaveholding, and how the Bible condemns those who own slaves.

By Anthony Schuyler, a member of the prominent family of who many members played a critical role in the formation of the United States.

An interesting piece of Americana published on the eve of the Civil War.

Condition

Rebound in a quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Institutional labels to the boards and paste downs. Rubbing and loss to the backstrip, with a tear. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spots. Institutional stamp to the title page, recto and verso, and to the final leaf of text. Very small scorch mark to the final two leaves of text, only very marginally affecting a couple of words.
